Description
This artwork is inspired by the many versions of the Archangel Michael and Lucifer. According to the Bible, in Revelation 12:7-9, Saint Michael battles Satan in Heaven and ultimately casts him and his demons into Hell. In my version, the Archangel Michael was replaced by the Virgin of the Panecillo of Quito. This version of the Virgin Mary is the only one in the world depicted with wings. At the bottom of the painting, there are representations of the demons. Their appearance is based on the Pillaro diablada, an event in the Ecuadorian highlands. This image conveys the message of the inescapable triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. It represents the defense of faith, strength, and hope in the face of adversity at certain stages of life.
