Description

This work is inspired in my previous painting "The Flower Vendor Ecuadorian version", which is based on the Mexican artist Diego Rivera. Riveras' works expressed the traditions of the popular classes, the indigenous peasant and a special interest in calla flowers. In this version, the woman selling flowers is a woman wearing a traditional Bavarian dress. Instead of a indigenous woman, a blonde woman carries a bouquet of giant callas. These flowers represent purity, holiness, and faithfulness, which goes back to its religious significance. Another difference in this piece of art is the gaze directly with the viewer, while in the Mexican versions women kept their gaze on the ground. I decided to paint this version as complement to my previous painting.
