Description

As Lucien Carr said "To be reborn, you have to die first". This work represents the famous celebration of "Año Viejo" in Ecuador. The construction of the "Año Viejo" represents the funeral of the year that ends, with the widows included. The "Año Viejo" is presented by dolls with masks that are made together with the family or neighbors, and that are placed at the entrance of the houses with letters or wills. In the will, good and bad experiences lived in the year that is about to end are written. At midnight on December 31 of each year, the burning of the dolls and wills begins as a purification ritual to ward off bad luck. The objective is to say goodbye to the year, ending all the bad things that could happen during that period and hoping that the new year will arrive full of successes and new dreams to fulfill.
